Effects of angiotensin receptor blockers and ACE inhibitors on dementia Lead Investigator: Benjamin Wolozin Institution : Boston University School of Medicine E-Mail : bwolozin@bu.edu Proposal ID : 68 Proposal Description: Specific Aim 1: Determine if subjects taking angiotensin receptor blockers, ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers PLUS ACE inhibitors show slower rates of cognitive decline and delayed nursing home admissions compared to subjects taking other antihypertensive medications or other cardiovascular medications. Specific Aim 2: Determine if subjects taking angiotensin receptor blockers, ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers PLUS ACE inhibitors show decreases in biomarkers associated with dementia, including: cytokines, brain volume loss, white matter hyperintensities and A??? levels.
